Community Session: Bone Health Talk

Tuesday, 19 August 2025 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

You’re Invited: Know Your Bones™ – It Could Save Your Life with Osteoporosis NZ

We don’t often think about our skeleton, but if you want to live an active, independent life well into older age, a healthy skeleton matters. Many people hear the word ‘fracture’ and think of it as a nuisance, some initial pain, a few weeks in plaster, and having to shower with a plastic bag. But it can be a warning sign of something more serious.

Christine Gill, Clinical Programme Director of Osteoporosis New Zealand, will join us to share essential insights on bone health and how to reduce your risk of fractures as you age. Christine will discuss how lifestyle factors like diet, being underweight, smoking, and exercise affect bone health, along with risks linked to medications, and what diagnosis and treatment options are available.

The session will cover:
✔ How lifestyle choices impact your skeleton and bone strength
✔ Key risk factors for osteoporosis
✔ How osteoporosis is diagnosed and treated
✔ Practical ways to protect your bones and reduce fracture risk
