Monthly Outing: From Waste to Worth

Join us to discover how everyday items that might otherwise be thrown away can be given a useful second life and bring hope to those who need it.
For our September monthly outing we’re visiting the Tāmaki Zero Waste Hub in Glen Innes, home to the Chip Packet Project NZ.
We’ll meet the volunteers behind the Chip Packet Project and discover how foil-lined chip packets are transformed into thermal survival blankets for people in need. We’ll see how the blankets are made, learn more about this wonderful project and enjoy morning tea during our visit.
We will also explore the Tāmaki Zero Waste Hub, a community recycling centre focused on repair, reuse and upcycling.
The Hub is home to a Reuse Shop, recycling facilities and a range of local upcyclers and community projects, providing plenty of ideas for giving unwanted items a new purpose.
What to expect on the outing:
✔ See how used chip packets are transformed into survival blankets
✔ Explore the Tamaki Zero Waste Hub and learn how items can be donated and rescued from landfill
✔ Browse the ReUse Shop for affordable second-hand and upcycled finds, and enjoy morning tea with the Chip Packet Project team
✔ Discover how tools, furniture and other unwanted goods are repaired, refurbished and given a second life
Come along, be inspired by the dedication of local volunteers and their passion for giving everyday items a new purpose while supporting those who need it most.
All Koha collected for this trip will be donated to the CPPNZ on the day – please remember a gold coin if you can

Transport: NEW MEETING POINT!!! A minibus will depart from the car park next to the Homestead Cafe, Bells Road, Lloyd Elsmore Park at 10:15. There is plenty of easy parking available but please do not use the cafe car park. If you require transport, please let us know when registering, as sometimes numbers are limited.
