VVE Community Session: Let’s Talk About AI

Thursday, 25 June 2026 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

You’re Invited: Let’s Talk About AI – The Good, The Bad and The Misunderstood

Everyone seems to be talking about AI, but for many of us it’s still a bit of a mystery. Is it something to be excited about, worried about, or both?

Join us for a fun, practical and jargon-free introduction to AI (Artificial Intelligence) with local tech expert Scott Carpenter.

In this interactive session, Scott will cut through the hype and explain AI in plain English. He will demonstrate how it can help with everyday tasks, spark creativity, answer questions, and make life a little easier. Scott will also share important tips on how to use AI safely and confidently, helping you understand both the opportunities and the risks.

No technical knowledge required!  Bring your questions, curiosity and sense of humour.

What to expect from this session:

✔ Understand AI: what it is and what it isn’t
✔ Discover practical AI uses for everyday living
✔ See fun, live examples of using AI at home
✔ How to stay safe whilst using AI

Scott Carpenter is a Howick local with a successful career as a Senior IT Manager. Scott has a knack for taking complicated technology and turning it into practical tools that make life easier, safer, and sometimes even a little more fun. These days, he’s particularly focused on helping people understand new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) without all the confusing jargon or hype. When he isn’t translating tech into plain English, Scott can be found out on the water chasing the wind or mountain biking with his family.
